Periodontal Therapy
Gum disease or “periodontal disease” is a gum infection with an inflammatory response caused by bacteria in plaque. The bacteria, which originated from daily habits, genetics, a lack of routine care and other factors, lead to gum tissue and bone loss. Prominent symptoms include bleeding and painful gums, as well as some discoloration.
Scientific research confirms there is a biodirectional link between gum disease and over 50 systemic diseases, including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Initially, periodontal disease is mild and can be controlled with professional treatment. As it advances, symptoms worsen and become challenging to suppress. Eventually, it can permanently damage supporting bone next to teeth. Without treatment, it can cause tooth loss as well as affect overall systemic health.
